“They made Hungary great again!
Hungary-Estonia 0:1, 457 spectators! Twenty years have slowly passed since this disgraceful match. At that time, and unfortunately for many years to come, the matches of the Hungarian national football team caused shame, disappointment, anger and complete disinterest among those interested in football. Our national team usually tried to present something on the field without faith, strength, will and vision, but in most cases these turned into embarrassing defeats. As a Hungarian football fan, I often avoided the matches of the national team from afar, because unfortunately they did not give me any positive experience. In those years, it was unimaginable that we would make it to any world competition, or at least suffer a decent defeat against the best.
It started sometime in the 2010s. While previously the Hungarian national team players listened to the anthem with their heads down, in the past decade, the national team began to mean more to more and more national team players than a match that somehow had to be survived. Little by little, the team and the audience started to find each other, and after decades of failures, we managed to get to the EC in 2016.
The country experienced fantastic weeks, and many of us believed in it, a new era is beginning in Hungarian football. Unfortunately, another wave of ups and downs followed, and partly a new national team had to be built due to the departure of the older generation. The enthusiasm, the struggle and the determination remained fortunately, and so did the love of the audience. With great strength, we managed to reach the 2021 European Championship, which is partly organized at home, and we have now reached the best from the lower region of the League of Nations.
Not only did we reach the best, but we also became their worthy opponents. Hungary remained in Group A of the Nations League, and even has a chance to make it to the top four. What has changed? Perhaps the players of the current national team love our country with all their heart and soul and give their all in the matches. That’s why we have an audience of hundreds of thousands of supporters standing by them all the way. Because you can play badly, someone can have bad luck, there can be a day when nothing comes together, but you can’t do such a disgrace that you can’t go out on the field with only half a heart and one foot. This team will surely play badly, we will surely suffer defeats in the future, as long as there is such fire and enthusiasm, the love and support of the Hungarian audience will remain! It’s good to say: Marco Rossi and the Hungarian national team made Hungary great again in Europe and the world!”
