First basis laid at workshop: Werdenberg and Liechtenstein are developing a new overall transport concept
The Werdenberg-Liechtenstein agglomeration is creating a new overall transport concept as part of the fifth program generation. The basis for this was laid in a workshop. The improvement of the Sevelen and Haag Rhine crossings is elementary for the carrier.
Work on entering the fifth program generation (5G) Werdenberg-Liechtenstein started last November. In the current year, a new overall traffic concept between Feldkirch and Sargans will be jointly developed.
In mid-September, executive committees and specialists from the agglomeration communities as well as representatives from the state and canton met at the Buchs Sargans vocational and further training center. This is what the Werdenberg-Liechtenstein Agglomeration Association writes in a press release.
6.5 million federal funds flowed into the agglomeration
In the beginning, the participants of the event were informed about the current status of the underlying projects. In addition to the key measures “Rhine crossings between Sevelen/Vaduz and Salez/Ruggell”, the public transport and bus developments on both sides of the Rhine were of interest. Further explanations followed on the revision of the Liechtenstein state plan and on the implementation focus of the FL mobility concept 2030.
The office provided information on the implementation status of agglomeration measures from program generations two and three in the member communities. Since 2016, more than 6.5 million Swiss francs of federal funds have flowed into the agglomeration through around 40 implemented measures. Together with the municipalities in the implementation perimeter, further projects from the approved programs will be initiated and pushed forward until 2027.
Develop overall traffic concept
As the association goes on to write, in the main part of the member workshop, the participants updated the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of the functional space. The review of goals and the further development of the current target and structural picture with the depiction of settlement, traffic, mobility as well as nature, landscape and climate are also part of the development process.
The focus of the meeting was the joint discussion of possible strategies for action. In particular, approaches and measures to solve current and future traffic challenges were deepened. This now provides the basis for specifying the overall traffic concept for the fifth generation of the agglomeration program.
For those responsible for the agglomeration, it is essential that steps are taken to improve the Sevelen-Vaduz and Haag-Bendern Rhine crossings. The Salez–Ruggell bridge is to be added to the program. In order to cope with the current and future traffic development, the association members continue to rely on strong public transport and optimized pedestrian and bicycle traffic. The 5G program for the Werdenberg-Liechtenstein agglomeration is to be submitted to the federal government in spring 2025. (PD)
