Prague: Policeman in court. He beat the suspects during the arrest
On January 11, 2020, an ex-police officer went to the Uhříněveské railway station on a reported case of spray vandalism. A pair of sprayers the police caught up on the spot. They both started running – with the police hot on their heels.
It could seriously hurt
Peter V. soon caught one of them. “The boy (17) tried to run away. I pulled him to the ground, punched him and sat on him, handcuffed him and picked him up. Along the way, I’m all he has broken eyebrows. I called the ambulance and his mother,” the policeman said in front of the court. He had no choice but to admit that he had done the young man a favor at least one blow beyond the scope of police actions.
However, the police officer defended himself by saying that he wanted to paralyze the boyto not run away. “I have nothing against sprayers, on the contrary. I’m sorry about his injury. But I had to intervene as a police officer when he repeatedly tried to run away“, defended the former policeman. “The court considers that the defendant physically attacked the victim without reason. He could have caused serious injury by punching him in the face,” was heard at the first court appearance, which took place in January. Judge Ivana Hynková characterized the policeman’s behavior as an attempt to harm, and also as an abuse of authority.
Flirting with a suspect?
This was not the only misdemeanor committed by Peter V. In July 2019, he progressed poorly at drug control in a couple of young people. He should have handcuffed the young man unnecessarily, which he did not even write a record about, moreover he should have tried flirt with his girlfriend. To underline his actions, he returned the pair alleged marijuana, which is illegal.
Another of the incidents of the former temperamental policeman took place in Prague 10. When he heard a call for help outside the door of an apartment in one of the houses, he kicked open the apartment door and burst inside. Everything would be fine until then. But instead of familiarizing himself with the situation, he punched one of the women in the face without prompting, who lived Finally, he knocked her down and handcuffed her.
“He attacked the victim with his fist for no reason,” Judge Hynková indicated that the whole case could have been avoided with a little diplomacy, even if the woman had not behaved properly. Not even a policeman. After hearing the original judgment, he appealed to the Municipal Court. He hoped to have the sentence commuted or overturned.
He could get 5 years
However, he was unsuccessful at the Court of Appeal. Given that he was threatened with up to 5 years behind bars, the chairman of the appeals panel, Libor Vávra, considers the punishment to be adequate, and mild throughout. “We rejected the defendant’s appeal and confirmed the original judgment of the District Court for Prague 10. He correctly evaluated all the evidence presented, and we did not look for any defects in order to somehow enter into his decision. We agreed with the legal qualification and the punishment, which was essentially mild,” he said Right chairman of the appeals board Libor Vávra.
