Employees of the Carrefour Market in Toulouse on strike for the increase of their “Macron bonus”
After the staff of the Carrefour brand warehouses mobilized for several days in the Toulouse region, this Saturday morning, the commercial employees are demonstrating in front of the Carrefour Market in Tournefeuille (Haute-Garonne) at the call of the FO union. They are not satisfied with the amount of €100 of the “value sharing bonus” (Macron bonus) granted by the management.
This Saturday, September 24, if you want to do your shopping in a Carrefour store, you risk having some empty shelves, especially those for fresh food. For the past week, employees of the brand have been blocking warehouses, that of Plaisance-du-Touch (Haute-Garonne) which stores mainly fresh and that of Colomiers where there is rather dry food. Consequence: shelf approval is deficient.
Since 8 a.m. this Saturday morning, around sixty employees have been demonstrating in front of the Carrefour Market in Tournefeuille.
“We have been here since this morning with staff from all the stores in the Toulouse region. Customers stop and some even leave without shopping as a sign of solidarity. We are here to inform them of the situation because we too, we suffer from inflation.”
Patricia Bec of the FGTA-FO union recognizes that the mobilization is quite significant and affects many categories of personnel. On the shelves, the ultra-fresh is out of stock: eggs, charcuterie, poultry and also sandwich bread. It is therefore not the Ukrainian conflict which is at its origin but this social movement.
After 3 negotiations with management (on 6, 15 and 22 September), the FO union is calling for this strike action. “We would keep having a job that allows us to live decently, says Patricia Bec.
After several mobilizations and negotiations, the employees obtained a 2.5% increase in wages for all to meet inflation. But it is above all the “value sharing bonus” (Macron bonus) that explains this mobilization. “We do not understand why the management set this bonus at only €100. During the confinement, we responded present, the stores remained open. At the time, the Covid bonus was €1,000. There we we are far from the mark, explains Patricia Bec.”
Other stores in the great southwest are also on strike, such as in Labège, Bordeaux or Sarlat. FO continues the mobilization, sometimes also in inter-union. They also want the management to commit to hiring permanent employees because, according to them, the staff present is not sufficient and leads to an increase in production rates.
