Election 2022 | Mayors of Prague: Who were Zdenek Hřiba’s predecessors?
The work of the mayor is often described as long run work. Applicants for this contribution are usually interested in the fact that in order to achieve their goals, they need not only two, but even two electoral terms, Jan Čižinský (Prague himself) even four – i.e. 16 years, and that as part of solving the housing crisis. Most burgomasters, mayors and mayors were given at least one year of government. But there are those who warmed up in the session of mayors and burgomasters for only a few months – they took turns there slowly like figures on the clock.
The last time this state was experienced was the last mayor of the communist era Josef Hajek (80, KSČ), who was mayor shortly after the Velvet Revolution to January 1990. However, he was far more turbulent the year 1848when they immediately took turns at the Old Town Hall 4 mayors!
The first was Joseph the knight Müller from Jiřetín (†69), who during the revolutionary events represented a conservative connection with the hated Habsburg Monarchy. He replaced it Antonín Strobach (†42), who, of course, could deal with the revolting citizens of Prague. He refused to solve the riots with violence, so he resigned after a month. He took his place in May 1848 Tomáš Pštross (†80), who made the mistake of initiating the elections to the Frankfurt Parliament in Prague, even though the public demanded that the Czechs ostentatiously ignore the elections. Pštross aroused general indignation and resigned – he was the mayor for 14 days! Until now Václav Vaňka (†73, Conservative Party of the Center) became burgomaster for a longer period of time at the end of May 1848. Fate gave him less than 13 years in office.
