Brazilian millionaires have already invested 870 million in Portugal
Brazilian investment raised through ‘gold’ visas exceeded 870 million euros in August, with 2017 being the year in which Brazil invested the most, according to data requested by Lusa from the SEF.
Since the Residency Permit for Investment (ARI) program was launched in October 2012, that is, almost 10 years ago, Brazilian investment has amounted to more than 870 million euros and 1,123 visas have been granted until August.
In 2013, investment from Brazil raised through this instrument amounted to 14.9 million euros, out of a total of 14 ‘gold’ visas granted, and in the following year, 41.5 million euros (52 visas) were granted and in 2015 it exceeded 33.8 million euros (39 ARI).
In 2016, the investment more than tripled to 117.7 million euros (142 ARI), and in 2017 the value reached 178.8 million euros, the year in which Brazilian citizens invested the most, in a total of 226 visas granted.
After this peak, the investment in rising to 148 million euros seen in the following year (total of 180 visas received), rising again to 158 million euros from 2019 visas).
During the pandemic, Brazilian citizens continued to invest through the ARI, but at a much slower pace: the investment raised in 2020 was 83.9 million euros, out of a total of 126 ‘gold’ visas granted, and in 2021 it totaled 49 .5 million euros (70 visas awarded).
Between January and August of this year, the investment raised totaled 42.9 million euros, 60% more than the 26.8 million euros recorded in the same period of 2021.
Last year, 42 ‘gold’ visas were granted to Brazil in the first eight months of the year, and this year the number rises to 64 at the end of August.
Last month alone, the investment totaled 6.6 million Brazilian euros and 10 ARIs granted, more than double the investment in August 2021 (2.5 million euros and three visas granted).
Of the 10 visas granted last August, five (4.7 million euros) relate to the purchase of properties worth half a million euros or more, three are related to the purchase of properties for urban rehabilitation and two, according to the criterion of download of capital in an amount equal to or greater than 350 million euros, risks to the acquisition of participation units of funds or capital funds dedicated to capitalization capitalization of companies that are incorporated under Portuguese legislation.
In terms accumulated since 2012, most of the Brazilian investment through ‘gold’ visas was carried out through the purchase of real estate with a value equal to or greater than 500 thousand euros, in an amount above 660 million euros, followed by the transfer capital (more than 181 million euros).
As for the ‘gold’ visas awarded according to the criterion of creating at least 10 jobs, Brazil adds three (one in 2018 and two in 2019).
Since the ARI grant program was launched, 6,497,529,571.45 euros have been raised through the instrument. Of this amount, most corresponds to the purchase of real estate, which totaled 5,830,483,944.06 euros in August, with the acquisition for urban rehabilitation amounting to 478,605,620.84 euros.
The investment resulting from the capital transfer is 667,045,627.39 euros.
Since its creation, which aims to attract foreign investment, 1,060 ARI instruments have been allocated: two in 2012, 1,526 in 2013, 1,526 in 2014, 766 in 2015, 1,414 in 2016, 1,351 in 2017, 1,409 in 2018, 1,245 in 2019 , 1,182 in 2020, 865 in 2021 and 806 in 2022.
In almost 10 years of the program (October 2012) 10,222 visas were granted for the purchase of real estate, of which 1,338 with a view to urban rehabilitation.
As a capital transfer requirement, 816 visas were granted and 22 for job creation.
