the Ukrainian ambassador to France present at the Normandy World Peace Forum
Friday 23 and Saturday 24 September instead the Normandy World Forum for Peace, for this fifth edition entitled “Down with the walls! These confinements that make wars.” The Ukrainian Ambassador to France, Vadym Omelchenko, participated in a round table this Friday where he spoke about the situation in Ukraine, international solidarity, but also Vladimir Putin’s policy.
Our hopes placed on the Ukrainian people
On Wednesday, September 21, the Russian president called on reservists to fight in Ukraine, which sparked a wave of protests in the country.
But for Ambassador Vadym Omelchenko, this uprising will not change the conflict :“For a while, we were hoping that it was really the Russian people who were doing things to stop the war. But when the full-scale invasion started, we saw that 75% of Russians supported Vladimir Putin’s actions. “In such a situation, it was impossible to imagine that the Russian population would do anything to stop the war. We have lost this illusion and today we rest our hopes on the Ukrainian people, on the Ukrainian army, on our partners and on solidarity.”
