Lucky Luke’s new book arrives in Portugal in October
“The Ark of Rantanplan” addresses vegetarian principles and animal protection. Jul and Achdé continue to be the authors of this return of the “cowboy faster than his own shadow”.
Edições ASA have just announced that the Portuguese translation will accompany the international edition of Lucky Luke’s new album. Titled “The Ark of Rantanplan”. The adventure addresses themes that we would hardly associate with the Wild West: vegetarian food and animal protection.
As with many of America’s “cowboy that shoots faster than its own” books, the shadow point is the true story of the creation of the Society for the Protection of Animals in Society by Henry Bergh in 1866, and it all starts when Lucky Luke arrives at a lost place in Texas called Cattle Gulch, which quickly adopts the curious name of Veggie Town.
Inspired, the central figure is Ovide Byrde, who chose abandoned or injured animals on his farm, making him the butt of mockery from fellow citizens. But everything will change when Byrde finds gold and, manipulated by a bandit, becomes a tyrant who terrorizes the region in the name of animal welfare!
Lucky Luke, or more precisely its authors, Jul and Achdé, will be responsible for the order without harming the animals to offend the current defenders of the issues, nowadays so crucial, here approached with humor and a biting spirit.
“A Rantanplan” is the fifth album created by a duo of authors, whose admirers of the author’s ark1 are the main character 9 critical and transformed from the comic heroes of the band designed by Morris in the already distant year of heroes during the 9 time that René Goscinny announced its arguments.
Keeping the original spirit of the series alive and close to its own graphic style, but Morris, Jul and Achdé combined combine the stereotypes they recognize in Lucky Luke, with current themes, such as the happy one in the previous albums, “A cowboy in the cotton business ” (2020). And, even judging by the first four pages of the new one already released, it keeps the good album – and they don’t even forget the recent pandemic, because part of it was conceived during that period.
“Ark of Rantanplan”, 10th volume of “The Adventures of Lucky Luke according to Morris”, will have 48 color pages and hardcover and will arrive in Portuguese bookstores on October 21st.
