450 spectators in Salzburg got to see an intense and thrilling game that also had five goals to offer. Ilia Ivanschitz gave the hosts an early lead with a penalty (6′), but thanks to Trevor Benedict (28′) and Kilian Sauck (38′), the team of DFB coach Michael Prus converted the sheet before half-time.
After the change of sides, Austria expects a good start again – and possibly after an hour by Yanik Spalt. A little later, however, it was Otto Stange from HSV who made it 3-2 in the 67th minute.
“Both teams were very good on a difficult-to-play pitch. We were able to win the game with a good mentality,” Prus praised his protégés via “dfb.de” and added: “I’m very satisfied, it was a highly intense game.”
Next Monday in Salzburg from 12:00 noon they will face the Austrian youth again, before heading to Poland in October, where international matches are scheduled for October 21st and 24th. In November (10th to 28th), the DFB selection will take part in a four-country tournament in Spain. In addition to the Iberians, Wales and the USA are also there.
