Members of the US Congress called on the head of the Pentagon to provide Ukraine with advanced UAVs
A bipartisan group of members of the US Congress consisting of 17 legislators called on the US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin to send to Ukraine advanced strike drones of the type “Gray Eagle” tv “Reaper”, which can be statistical with key advantages for the Armed Forces.
It was announced on Thursday The Wall Street Journal with reference to the official letter of the Pentagon legislators,
“Ukraine could better counter Russian threats with advanced unmanned aerial systems such as the MQ-1C Gray Eagle or the MQ-9A Reaper,” the lawmakers wrote in an official statement.
The letter states that the advanced UAV could be deployed far from the front line and at the same time provide continuous surveillance and accurate targeting of long-range artillery fire.
Lawmakers who signed the letter addressed to the Pentagon chief include Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur, Alice Spartz, Victoria Spartz, Congresswoman Adam Schiff, Elissa Slotkin and others.
As reported earlier, the Biden administration was reluctant to provide advanced drones due to fears of escalation with the Russian Federation, as well as due to the presence of sensitive technologies, including advanced cameras.
The use of unmanned aerial vehicles combined with conventional military equipment, including US-provided HIMARS multiple-launch missile systems, has already helped Ukraine retake thousands of square kilometers of occupied territory.
