City Council Prague 5 » The revitalization of Chaplin Square is entering its final phase
20/09/2022
An inspection day at Chaplin Square showed that work is progressing according to plan. The square was in a desperate state and its reconstruction had been under consideration since 2012. The investment event had not been prepared in previous years. Now, after 2 years, we are entering the final phase of construction.
In the past week, an inspection day of the construction “Revitalization of Chaplin’s square in the Barrandov estate” took place with the participation of the deputy mayor Ing. Lubomír Brož, councilor Mgr. Zdenek Doležal and Milan Vondráček, head of the investment preparation and implementation department.
The investment event is taking place according to the project preparation, which was publicly discussed in the past and further consulted with school management, the parents’ association and the communities of unit owners in the affected area.
As part of the revitalization of the square, the ecological aspect was also taken into account, primarily to ensure quality drainage and care for neglected trees, which was achieved. At present, remediation of trees, landscaping, demolition of existing concrete surfaces to ensure uniform infiltration is carried out, and the drainage system and laying of infiltration paving is being completed.
In the final phase, public lighting will be modified and restored, a drinking fountain built, an irrigation system connected to the water supply, play elements, railings and furniture will be installed, including an increase in the number of benches at the request of older fellow citizens.
The repaired square will soon be open to the public again. If everything goes according to plan, the investor will hand over Chaplin Square to the public for use by the Prague 5 Municipal Council in October 2022.
