24 Grands Prix on the 2023 F1 calendar, with Monaco and without the French GP
F1 has therefore decided to beat its record for Grands Prix per season established this year (22 courses, the Russian GP having been canceled). There will be two more in 2023, if the schedule unveiled on Tuesday is respected. A round is scheduled in China in April, but the health situation is still tense in this country and it could be canceled.
The Championship will begin in Bahrain on March 5 and end more than eight months later in Abu Dhabi on November 26. The European period will start at Imola on May 21, a week before Monaco, which is therefore kept on the program. Belgium, which was usually the first event after the summer break, will be the last before the summer holidays, on July 30, and it is in the Netherlands that the drivers will meet on August 27.
Las Vegas is coming in November
As expected, there is no GP of France, nor GP of South Africa, which did not manage to find its place, which also benefits Spa. Only one race makes its arrival on the calendar, that of Las Vegas, on November 18, which will therefore be the third of the season in the United States (Miami on May 7, Austin on October 22).
There are three triplets on the program: Emilia-Romagna – Monaco – Spain and United States – Mexico – Brazil. F1 managed to avoid a duplication with the 24 Hours of Le Mans on June 10 and 11, but not with the Indianapolis 500 which will take place on the same weekend as the Monaco GP.
“Having 24 races on the F1 World Championship calendar is further proof of the sport’s growth and appeal globally.commented Mohammed Ben Sulayem, the president of the FIA. The addition of new venues and the maintenance of traditional events underline the good management of the sport by the FIA. I am delighted that we can bring more fans to this exciting new era of F1 racing, created by the 2022 FIA regulations. »
