Traffic on the outskirts of Monaco: “We must ask ourselves the question of our choices. Are they relevant?” asks the Minister of State
“The first: it is a question of bringing these employees closer, in terms of housing, to their place of work. I think we have progress to make in the housing of our assets, the mayors of neighboring municipalities are aware of this. But that can’t solve everything. We cannot build all these accommodations at the gates of the Principality, but we will have to optimize.
The second track is mobility. And there, the subject is also very complex because it does not only concern Monaco but also France. »
Pierre Dartout develops: “We have to ask ourselves the question of our choices. Are they technically and budgetary relevant? This is what will allow us to distinguish what can be done in the short term and what should be done in the medium and long term. Major projects exist, they are interesting, but they have not been discussed with France. I intend to deal with certain subjects in the Franco-Monegasque commission. »
Take the time to study
If it is recognized on both sides of the border that the issue of mobility is essential, it will take time.
“First, and I’m not going to give you the scoop, the budgetary situation is not the same in France as here. Then we must also count on technical studies to be carried out on the environmental level and on the level of the solidity of the infrastructure and its efficiency. Engage in very expensive operations? Why not. But you have to see commenting on the finances, and commenting on France is part of that. So there are perhaps things to be done more quickly which do not lead to too heavy infrastructures but which do see developments, even creations, such as deterrent car parks. These solve the traffic problem in Monaco, but not upstream, but it is progress all the same…”
