1. How long to study with a first grader?
AGAINST first class the foundations of literacy and numeracy are laid for the rest of life. Therefore, parents should not neglect the repetition and practice of the curriculum. But it only takes a few minutes a day. “Twenty minutes at most. Practice syllables, either in workbooks or syllabaries, flashcards that can be used as a pexe are also excellent,” advises Zdeňka Masopustová, director of the BASIC Study Center for the Czech Republic.

2. Is it appropriate to be strict?
According to experts, it pays to tighten the imaginary rein and be stricter in some annuals. But it’s too early for that in first grade. “Before focusing on performance, it is important to awaken the inner motivation to learn in children. This helps to build a positive attitude towards education as a whole, and I am convinced that it is not much bigger,” believes Masopustová. He has simple advice for copying exercise books and learning letters. “Don’t tell a child that he scratches and it’s ugly. Let him work, praise him for his concentrated work and let him evaluate for himself which letter he likes the most. Let him underline that and try to write the next whole line,” he describes positive motivation.

3. What should a parent prepare for?
According to the Institute of Practical Pedagogy, one of the biggest problems that parents and their children have to deal with at home is their playfulness. And that in up to 33 percent. In 27 percent, parents deal with boring or demanding homework, in 14 percent with stress. Other snags in home preparation include dislike of school and school attendance as well as inattentiveness.

4. If I don’t prepare too much to solve, are there risks of complications?
Only school does not teach children everything, and knowledge of the basics is a must. Moreover, relying on the fact that teachers do not give bad grades in the first grade is not supported by the statistics. In June of this year, according to the report card of the Ministry of Education, 1197 first-graders received a five.

Children with developmental trauma often express themselves loudly, aggressively and chaotically at school, because these are exactly the manifestations they experience at home. In addition, such a child is always under stress and his head is constantly on the alert for when danger will come again.

How are you doing?! the teachers get angry. Trauma can be hidden behind an undisciplined student

5. When to let the children prepare themselves?
Packing and checking a bag, counting crayons – according to experts, this is not work for parents. “The sooner they start relying on themselves, the better,” says Masopustová.

6. Is it worth studying with children in higher classes?
In the following grades, parents should primarily set a firm and regular regime for the schoolchild with clearly defined periods of time for fun and learning. In the second grade, according to the Basic study centers, the presence of parents is recommended in the preparation, but in the higher grades, the preparation and responsibility for the study results should be mainly on the children.

7. How much time does it take to prepare the child for school?
There is no universal answer. However, according to some experts, the home preparation of Czech children from the 4th to the 8th grade is not significant compared to other countries of the world. According to them, the time burden for completing the homework is around thirteen minutes. “Only pupils in Scotland, England, Australia, the USA and the Netherlands spend less time on analysis homework than in the Czech Republic,” say the authors Václav Korbel and Daniel Münich about the difficulty of studying in the Czech Republic.
