Toulouse: the former Raymond-Badiou college being destroyed
At the foot of the Reynerie bars, the old Badiou college is being destroyed. It must give way to housing distributed in buildings of various small sizes.
Started in the spring with an asbestos removal phase, the destruction of the former Raymond-Badiou college, at the foot of the Grand D’Indy bar, at La Reynerie, is now clearly visible. The old premises of this establishment have been largely eaten away by mechanical shovels. And by November or December, there should be nothing left of what, in 1985, when the town hall put the building at the disposal of the general council, was called the College de la Reynerie.
As part of its social mix plan, the county council gradually closed, until the start of the 2020-2021 school year, this college which only received young people from the neighborhood. The pupils of the Reynerie are now educated in favored establishments and, for a part, in the new college of Saint-Simon which opened, boulevard Eisenhower, in this new school year.
Intended to fight against ghetto colleges, this social mix plan, which was contested by residents of the district, is, from the point of view of student success, crowned with success, affirms the county council. In this new school year, the college of Bellefontaine also closed in the same way.
Urban farming
For the town hall of Toulouse, now once again the owner of the premises, it is a question of building housing on this vast plot. Four lots for 180 housing units are thus programmed. The aim is to mix access to property and rental, the private and the social. But also to work on urban forms with small houses on the Avenue de la Reynerie side up to small collectives of up to six floors. Attention to the environmental aspect of this urban planning is also planned, assures the district mayor, Gaëtan Cognard, for whom the Badiou project is “the first stage in the urban renewal of the Reynerie”.
While waiting for these constructions to be created, around 2025-2026, a transitional urban agriculture project is being studied in conjunction with the neighborhood management and the MILPA association.
