This New Forest Hotel in Sweden has 5 “floating” treehouse suites
A new hotel in southern Sweden promises a “unique stay in the heart of the forest” where the landscape, simple design and silence are at the center. By Dobrina Zhekova
Trakt Skogshotell (trakt is Swedish for an area or district, often used in forestry) is a five-suite property that stands out with its distinctive architecture, conceived by Gert Wingårdh, an acclaimed Swedish architect whose eye-catching style includes a penchant for sharp, geometric shapes and bold colors . The property, which took five years to complete and just opened in July, was inspired by traditional Swedish hunting towers used to track moose that are elevated off the ground and often built with local materials. Likewise the five forest suites that the architect described for Travel + Leisure because “floating rooms” are built on columns with minimal environmental impact and blend seamlessly into the tall trees around them.

“It takes simplicity to appreciate the forest,” Wingårdh said T+L, also explains that the elevated design of the suites invokes a sense of security and privacy. Inside, Scandinavian simplicity and custom accents, like locally made chairs, exude understated luxury. Wood-burning fireplaces, stylish sofas, oversized windows and – best of all – skylights allow guests to immerse themselves in the forest.
– We want our visitors to be part of Swedish nature, rather than being guests in it, say Sandra and Mattias Sälleteg, the founders of Trakt Skogshotell. They explained that the property was developed on the family farm and that by launching the hotel they hope to contribute to the region by “employing people from the area, working with local producers and artisans and sourcing materials locally.”
Trakt Kitchen, the hotel’s restaurant located in a log house, specializes in traditional home-cooked dishes, many of the ingredients coming from the family or nearby farms. “We let our cooking take time, leaven our own sourdough, smoke our meat, cook the jam,” said the owners of the website. Guests can have a breakfast basket or lunch delivered directly to their room or book a three-course dinner. On summer weekends, a hearty buffet is served for lunch, followed by dessert, coffee and tea. Patrons enjoy Italian wine from a small Umbrian vineyard and homemade soda made with fresh fruit from a local farm.
Nightly rates at Trakt Forest Hotel start at USD 732 (INR 58470), and you can book your stay here.
