San Marino Marathon 2022 to Riccardo Vanetti and Elisa Benvenuti • newsrimini.it

Sugar Mizzy September 5, 2022

The historic Piazza Grande in Borgo Maggiore, in the Republic of San Marino, has lived Sunday 4 September un real marathon party with the third edition of the Ekiden of San Marino And San Marino Marathon. The real marathon runners, who covered the entire 42.195 km, and the teams involved in Ekiden, the exciting relay marathon involving 5 athletes for each team, measured themselves on the “queen” distance of athletics.

On an individual level there was no battle: lap after lap (a spectacular 6 km “ring” to be repeated 7 times) the advantages of the treads became more and more solid: Riccardo Vanetti (of team bolog), third in the past ) won in 2: 50’15 “ahead of Maurizio Bisacchi (Sidermec, 2: 59’16”) and teammate Matteo Amelio (3: 07’15 “); with the same “solitary” interpretation, the victory of Elisa Benvenuti (Riminimarathon, 3: 17’15 “), who preceded Silvia Torricelli (Atl. Reggio, 3: 25’24”) and Elisa Crescentini (Pod. Arcus Rimini, 3: 36’13 “).

Male Ekiden: the “Comandini surprise”
There was a battle, however, and a lot, in the relay race: from the “boxes” of the teams, located under the arcades of Piazza Grande and along the barriers of the finish area, the cheering was on when, fraction after fraction, the duel between the “corporate initiated” team of the San Marino Colombini group and that of the Gabbi Sports Group, the reigning champion Bolognese team (his race record: 2: 26’27 “in 2021), which in edition has had to do without some “tips”, engaged in the Italian 10 km Fidal championship (staged on the afternoon of Saturday 3 September in Castelfranco Veneto): it ended with the victory of the company group: 2: 28’32 “against 2 : 30’44 ”, victory signed by Giovanni Pazzaglia, Marco and Moreno Oppioli, Giacomo Ganci and Michelangelo Parmigiani.

«The enthusiasm that accompanied both the relays and the marathon is the most important result for us – commented the organizer, Samuel Guiducci -; I am particularly pleased with how the participation of the “corporate” teams, made up of work colleagues or groups of friends, is developing; for some time in our races we have been promoting this formula that allows many people to get closer to running and above all to have fun in exciting challenges. “

Ekiden female: GS Gabbi record
The only record of the 2022 edition came in women’s Ekiden, where the GS Gabbi athletes improved the limit set by the same company in 2021: 2: 51’09 “against 3’03” 00 of the last edition. The signing of the race record is by Luana Leardini, Valeria Baldassarri, Alice Cuscini, Eleonora Gardelli and Chiara Guiducci.

Azzurri in the race
The event in San Marino also became an opportunity to greet and applaud two of the blue protagonists of Italy’s excellent fourth place at the recent 100 km world finals, held in Bernau, near Berlin, on Saturday 27 August: in the second formation Ekiden of Gabbi, in fact, also raced Lorena Brusamento (31st in 8: 04’42 ”) and Federica Moroni (9th in 7: 31’45”, Italian W50 master record). In total there are four athletes of the San Marino event who boast convocations in their respective national teams: the ultramarathon runner Enrico Vedilei (8 appearances in blue, competing on Sunday in the marathon) and the marathon runner Gianluigi Macina (engaged in the relay), who with the jersey of San Marino has participated in two editions of the Olympic Games (Barcelona 1992 and Sydney 2000) and in the 1991 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.

Participants from 12 countries
The third edition of the San Marino Marathon has opened more than in the past to international participation with competitors from 12 countries. In total there were about 300 participants who animated the San Marino event including marathon runners, relay runners and runners who ran at a non-competitive level, the novelty of this third edition organized once again by the athletics company Track & Field San Marino and by the Giunta di Castello di Borgo Maggiore, approved by the FSAL (San Marino Athletics Federation) and supported by the patronage of the “Work and Sport”, “Territory and Environment” and “Tourism” Secretariats of State as well as the San Marino National Olympic Committee.
