For the American magazine Jacobin, “Lisbon is one of the most uninhabitable cities in the world”. No published article is registered in the ranking that places Lisbon as the third most expensive city in the world to live in, which was released in May of this year, based on housing prices and costs. The Portuguese capital is ahead of cities like Paris and New York, and just behind London and Rome.
A chemographer in Lisbon has to “dedicate 50 to 60 percent of his salary to income, if he has a well-paid job”, tells the magazine ge Agustín Cocola-Gant. But those who earn the minimum wage can’t even think about coming to mourn that city resident. And to underline that the “attempts to publish the problem through “market efficiency” have worsened the problem”.
The current scenario results from a “perfect storm of bad policies” focused on the development of “low value-added activities, of which tourism is the Golden eggs chicken“, as geographer Luís Mendes from the University of Lisbon and consultant in the area of Housing at the Lisbon City Council (CML) tells Jacobin.
It is also mentioned that in recent years, the population has registered remarkably, especially in the most typical neighborhoods, given the cost of living. The speculative magazine still the model of Affordable, which were conceived as planners seven thousand rents adjusted, still planned with the public planned for the construction of apartments and still planned for the construction of exclusive apartments.
