Greek-Turkish: Why are they worried in Athens – Erdogan is capable of everything
Athens sees that Tayyip Erdoğan has fully adopted the rhetoric of both the official opposition leader Kemal Kilinsaroglou and his government partner, president of the National Action Party, Devlet Batxeli.
Because the president of Turkey is not only talking about from militarizationbut clearly for invasion and occupied islands.
What has Kilinzaroglou said? That the islands of the Aegean are under the “occupation” of Greece accused the president of Turkey of giving these islands to the Greeks and not saying a word about it.
“The Aegean islands under our noses are under the occupation of the Greek army. Yes, dear friends. The last was to even go to Pserimos. Four miles from Turkey, only four miles. Many times I have asked Erdogan: “Do we have rights on these islands?”. Kich has not taken out. He talks about everything, but that’s why he doesn’t talk. They also went to Pserimos now.”
But also Bakhtseli, when he had located the headquarters of the Gray Wolves and had been photographed with a map that depicted the islands of the Eastern Aegean and Crete as Turkish territories.
Diplomats say Erdogan is now cultivating public opinion in his country culture of war. In other words, he is trying to convince the Turkish citizens that it is Greece that has occupied Turkish lands. How else to explain yesterday’s statements of the Turkish president?
“Greeks, look at history, go back to history, if you go too far, the price will be heavy. we just have a conversation about Greece, don’t forget Smyrna”he said and, according to Anadolu Agency, noted that “The occupied islands of Greece do not bind us. When the time comes we will do whatever it takes.”. It was one of his controversial positions.
The worst thing is that it is this position expressed by Tayyip Erdogan, the Kemalites also share it. Which means that we should have no illusions that even if Tayyip Erdogan loses the next election there will be another place in their foreign policy.
The foreign ministry announcement yesterday afternoon left no room for misinterpretation as to what it thought of the continued statements by senior officials. Talk about outrageous and beyond all bounds downhill of statements and threatsfor provocative statements and that it is Ankara that dynamitates the cohesion of NATO in a particularly dangerous period.
In other words, no one sees room for improvement in Greek-Turkish relations. Instead, we are heading for a period of long-term tension that will last at least until the elections in Turkey, with a Tayyip Erdogan who sees himself as bolstered by his mediation in the Ukrainian crisis. He can easily deal with the Americans, with NATO. So he is capable of everything.
