SALZBURG

RV parks in Upper Austria | promobile

Sugar Mizzy September 3, 2022

The Salzburger Land stretches from the rugged 3,000m peaks of the Venice Group in the south-west across the imposing limestone mountains of the Hochkönig massif and the Tennengebirge to the gentle hills of the Salzburg Lake District in the north of the city of Salzburg.

The south-east is again determined by the rough mountains, this time the Radstädter Tauern. For those traveling in a mobile home, there are great pitches, bathing lakes and beautiful mountains in all parts of the Salzburg region.

Thomas Cernak

Alexander von Humboldt once considered Hallstatt to be “the most beautiful lakeside town in the world” – an assessment that is still very understandable today, as this view shows.

Salzkammergut with numerous bathing lakes

The Salzkammergut begins east of the state capital with its deep, turquoise to moor-colored bathing lakes. It ranges from Lake Fuschl and Lake Wolfgang in the Salzburg area to the Upper Austrian part with Lake Mondsee, Lake Attersee, Lake Traun and Lake Hallstatt at the foot of the mighty Dachstein walls to the Ausseer Land in the Styrian Salzkammergut.

The Oberpinzgau with the valley of the Salzach in its upper reaches forms the south-west tip of the Salzburger Land. The main town in the region is the market town of Mittersill with the Hohe Tauern National Park Centre. In the multimedia exhibition “National Park Worlds” it provides a reliable overview of the various landscape areas. The main attraction are die at the end of the valley Krimml Waterfallsthe highest in Austria with a total drop of 385 meters.

Natural wonder Liechtensteinklamm: The Helix staircase leads to deep insights.

Parking space under the Steinernes Meer

Above the villages of Almdorf and Maria Alm with their two pitches rises majestic the Steinernes Meer from Breithorn, Schönfeldspitze and Selbhorn. The municipality of Lend in the south-east, on the other hand, is a good base for hiking tours in the Rauriser and Gastein valleys and for visiting the spectacular Liechtensteinklamm gorge.

Of the moon lake is the namesake of the Mondsee culture. Even the Neolithic people recognized that it was good to live by the lake and built their wooden houses directly on the shore, on the appearance of which 1,860 were built. The Pfahlbau- und Klostermuseum in Mondsee tells the whole story. In the rural and open-air museum in the village, a smoke house from the 15th century is the focus, which combines the living room and the service wing under one roof. As was customary at the time, the smoke from the hearth wafted through its cracks. On its way it blackens walls and ceilings and dries the grain stored in the attic.

Sulzenalm Wallehenhütte (1,600 m) above Filzmoos with a magnificent mountain panorama.

With an area of 46 square kilometers, the Attersee is the largest lake in the Salzkammergut. More than 100 Gründerzeit villas near the shore exude a nostalgic summer flair. You meet here and there nice beach baths, Divers enjoy the clear water with a depth of visibility of up to 20 meters. From midday, a steady breeze with the poetic name rose wind blows from the north-east, letting sailors and surfers glide over the waves.

“Turning winds” lure on the southern shore of Lake Traunsee Crowds of kite surfers on the water. In the past, the salt from Hallstatt made its way into the world on ships via the Traun and Traunsee. The Traunstein (1,691 m), a huge block of limestone, watches over everything. Experienced climbers can scale the mountain in three hours; On a clear day, a fantastic view opens up at the top.

Step into the good room! Lovingly furnished museum “Mondseer Rauchhaus”.

Bad Ischl was one of my favorite places Emperor Franz Joseph and Empress Sisi. In the teahouse in the Kaiserpark, Elisabeth wrote poems and did her gymnastics. It now houses a photography museum. Franz Joseph liked to go deer hunting at the Vorderer Langbathsee; this attracts many hikers today. Just like the Vorderer Gosausee, which Alexander von Humboldt praised as the “eye of God”.

In addition, he indicated Hallstatt as the most beautiful lake town of the world. The following pages provide a quick and complete overview of the pitches in the region. The places in Altenmarkt, Golling and Salzburg can be found in the July issue of promobil.

Conclusion

Upper Austria is an absolute favorite destination for Alpine fans, and the trip to 3000m mountains and lakes is also worthwhile for campers. We have the best pitches for motorhomes and camper vans in the region. There are even more tips for the region here.

Do you also go camping in winter? Then you will find a winter tour through the Salzburger Land here.

Comment Pitch fees are soaring

Sure, everything will be more expensive – and there’s no question: the new site at the Winkl lido in Obertraun is one of the most beautiful in the region. But: There you have to register via the guest directory sheet and pay the accommodation tax introduced in Upper Austria in 2021 in cash, plus the fee of 24 euros at the machine – electricity and water cost extra! There is a better way – and more service-oriented.
