“We have 96 first-graders, we opened four first classes, there are currently 861 children in the entire school,” said Zuzana Majstrová, director of the Faculty Elementary School of Professor Otokar Chlupa.
Mayor David Vodrážka also came to greet the new pupils. He wishes for the new school year to have as little stress as possible around the coronavirus pandemic, which the teacher has fundamentally reflected in recent school years.
“Disinfectants are being used and of course the teachers know how to instruct the children to wash their hands even more and so on. On the other hand, I am happy that the measures have disappeared and that we have returned to normal, that it will be normal teaching, we will go to school normally , we will normally go to schools in nature and the like, which is terribly important,” said David Vodrážka, mayor of the Prague 13 municipality.
In Prague 13 this year, over eight hundred and twenty first-graders started school, and six hundred and fifty children were admitted to nurseries. The total number of pupils in local schools exceeded five thousand eight hundred. More than forty Ukrainian children, all from families who fled the Russian invasion, entered the faculty elementary school alone. According to the management, the school has many years of experience with foreigners.
“Currently, there are two foreign language assistants working here who help with the adaptation of the children, and then we have several teachers who take care of them from the point of view of Czech as a foreign language, so that the children stay for approximately 10 to 14 hours of Czech per week, depending on their needs,” said Zuzana Majstrová, director of the Faculty Elementary School of Professor Otokar Chlupa.
To make the start of the school year as pleasant as possible for the children, the district has prepared a unique event for them in the Central Park. Children could enjoy, for example, a bouncy castle, an autodrome or a chain carousel. The day-long program also offered children performances and competitions. All elementary school students in Prague 13 could come. However, according to the district administration, children from all over the metropolis could also attend the event.
