ÖFB-Cup: Sturm Graz trembles only briefly against Austria Salzburg – football
Graz – Wednesday, August 31, 2022, 7:50 p.m
On Wednesday, SK Sturm celebrated a 3-1 win against Austria Salzburg in the second round of the ÖFB Cup in Graz’s Merkur Arena.
Sarkaria put the hosts ahead in the 11th minute. The goal was preceded by a catastrophic bad pass from Salzburg’s Fonjga. As a result, the Grazers dominated the game and created chance after chance.
When Salzburg’s Hausberger wants to clear a Sarkaria pass, the defensive man puts him in his own goal (29th). Austria, after all the undefeated leader of the Regionalliga West, goes into the half-time break without a valuable chance to score.
Grazer stay on the trigger after the change of sides, Schnegg is unlucky with a shot at the post (54th).
As if out of nowhere, Salzburg suddenly scored a goal: Graz couldn’t get the ball away after a corner kick and Sorda scored with a nice shot from the turn (72′).
But the Ilzer squad had the perfect answer ready and only trembled for a few minutes: Fuseini was held back in the Salzburg penalty area, and Sarkaria confidently converted the penalty kick that was due (79′).
The Grazers move into the next round with a 3:1 final score.
