Portugal in 40th place in the Women’s Amateur World Cup by teams – Golf
The national women’s team of the Portuguese Golf Federation concluded its participation in the World Team Championship in 40th position, consolidating itself in the last achieved after the third round.
The Espírito Santo Trophy (official name of the competition, with the name referring to the Portuguese Espírito Santo family) was won by Sweden, which ended with the same result as the United States of America (559 strokes, 13 under par), but surpassed up through the first tiebreaker.
The World Cup took place on the difficult course of the Albatros Course at Le Golf National, next to Versailles, on the outskirts of Paris, the course that hosted the Ryder Cup in 2018 and which will host the Olympic tournament of the Paris 2024 Games.
Portugal totaled 614 strokes (156+155+151+152), 42 over Par, taking Nélson Ribeiro as players of the national team to 40th place, with just one more stroke than the nations that shared the 38th, Morocco and Singapore .
The Espírito Santo Trophy for Sweden, which, on the last day, went up three stages and ended in a tie with the team from the United States of America.
The first lowest tie-count criterion – the lowest score not counted for the team on the last day of the lower margin – Louise Rydqvist scored 73 strokes on the final lap, while the third-best American was Rachel Kuehn with 74.
It was the third title for Sweden, repeating the victories of 2004 and 2008. The Americans were the defending champions, having won a competition for the 14th time in 2018, in Ireland (the 2020 edition was not held due to the pandemic of Covid).
In the individual classification, Sofia Barroso Sá was 83rd, with 304 strokes (+18), Leonor Medeiros was among the 110th, with 312 (+26) and Ana da Costa Rodrigues finished in 121st, with 315 (+29).
The best players in the tournament were Sweden’s Meja Ortengren, Germany’s Helen Briem and American Rose Zhang, who totaled 279 strokes (-7).
