No Robert Tigges, but Lauren Stam on the couch at Amsterdam
The women of Amsterdam have to do without Robert Tigges just before the start of the season. The coach has reported to the board of Amsterdam.
Tigges did start the run-up to the new season, but did not go on a practice internship to Hamburg last week. He is also missing from the ABN AMRO Weekend. Lauren Stam has been put forward by Amsterdam as a replacement.
The former international and former player of Amsterdam, who retired last year after a season full of injuries, forms a tandem with Kim Lammers, who was Tigges’ assistant. ‘Lauren was already part of the top hockey committee’, says Amsterdam chairman Marc Staal. ‘Also because of her experience as a player, she knows the group well and this is now the best solution.’
Start of the big league
“Robert is not able to lead the team at the moment,” Staal continues. That is of course very annoying, especially before the start of the season. We expect Kim and Lauren to sit on the couch together next weekend, when the Dutch big league starts. It is still unclear how long this situation will last exactly.’
Title contender Amsterdam will finish the season next Saturday at Klein Zwitserland. The team reached the semi-finals last season under Tigges, who has been at the helm of the Wagener club since 2019.
