The bike as a new way to move in the city center of Dijon
You may come across them in the city center of Dijon with their trailers full of parcels: the company Tout en vélo offers various services, only with bicycles (as its name suggests), including removals. The creation of the company two years ago, since five have been completed but the founders would like to develop this activity. In addition to the ecological aspect, the bicycle can be practical in places like the city center of Dijon, which is difficult to access for moving trucks.
France Bleu Bourgogne takes you
We find Anabelle Barbier and Tony Simon, the founders of the company for a move in the city center of Dijon. A small move: two bikes and therefore two trailers will suffice. It left for a few round trips to the third floor of the building, a habit that had to be taken because neither of them is a mover by profession : “I still moved thirty-five times in my life”says Anabelle. “As cycling is my passion and moving is a fact, I thought we could give it a try”, here is the genesis of the company’s activity.
It’s Tetris!
First piece of furniture to transport, a fridge, easy Tony explains: “It’s less complicated than a dishwasher or a washing machine. You just have to distribute the weight, so that there isn’t too much on the attachment. It’s Tetris!”. In all, the company has six trailers and each can carry up to 300 kilograms. When a single load is not enough, the movers go back and forth. Small subtlety of the bike: it is absolutely necessary to strap everything to avoid falling in the turns: “especially since the height is more important than the tray so you have to protect”. The fridge and other furniture will arrive safely, just before the rain.
Why move by bike?
Most of the removals carried out by the company are done in the city center of Dijon or in the surrounding districtswhere the bike takes all its advantage: “we can move in areas that are not or not very accessible with trucks”, explains Anabelle Barbier. No need for a parking space or authorization from the town hall to pass the city center terminals. No need to pay for labor or fuel either. On the other hand, the bike has some disadvantages: rain for example, even if it is possible to install tarpaulins. The main limitation is the distance between the two dwellings: “Anything is possible, but since we are paid by the hour and the trailers can carry 300 kilograms, after a while it is no longer worth it. The best thing is to move from one neighborhood to another”says Tony Simon.
