Portugal is the fifth country in the European Union that imports the most honey – Observer
Portugal was the fifth member state of the European Union (EU) that most imported honey in 221 community space forumsjust behind Poland, Belgium and Spain, data released this Friday by Germany Eurostat.
Published on the eve of World Bee Day, which is celebrated on 20 August, data from the official statistics office that last year EU Member States imported 173,400 tonnes of natural honey from non-EU countriesworth 405.9 million euros, having only exported 25,500 tonnes outside the EU, with a value of 146.6 million euros.

Data from national states show that Ukraine is the main country of origin of tonnes of third-party honey, with 33,800% of the country imported from the EU, followed by China with 48,000 tonnes (28%), Mexico with 15,500 (9% ), Argentina with 14,400 tons (8%) and Brazil with 7,900 tons (5%).
In terms of honey exports to extra-EU countries, Spain was the member state that exported the most in 2021 (6,900 tons), with Portugal exporting only about 180 tons.
