Motor Show – Geneva canceled, Qatar confirmed
Geneva canceled, Qatar confirmed
The Geneva Motor Show scheduled for February 2023 has been cancelled. The traditional salon is to open its doors in Qatar instead.
The Geneva Motor Show will not take place next year. At least not in Switzerland. As the “Comité permanent du Salon international de l’automobile de Genève” announced, the fair scheduled for February 2023 is cancelled. This is justified by uncertainties in the global economy and the geopolitical situation as well as the risks associated with the development of the pandemic.
However, the new branch in Doha (Qatar) is to take place for the first time in November. The show, which is positioned as a “world-renowned auto show for the Middle East”, was announced for 2021. It should not replace the regular show in Geneva, but take place in addition. With the trade fair, which is held every two years, Qatar will strengthen its position as a tourist destination, and the Geneva Salon will improve its difficult financial situation.
It is uncertain whether the Salon will return to Geneva. The official statement on the cancellation contains no clear statement in this regard. The last edition of the traditional trade fair took place in 2019, the editions of 2020 and 2021 were canceled due to the corona pandemic.
