in the midst of water restrictions, the Tisséo public transport network is watering its lawns
On the night of Wednesday August 17, Tisséo was caught in the act of watering the lawns of the Toulouse cable car car park (Haute-Garonne). Pointed out by a community elected official, the transport network pleads a “dysfunction”.
Despite the drought, the lawns of the parking lot of the Toulouse cable car (Haute-Garonne) at the Oncopole are very green. Normal: they continued to be watered despite the watering restrictions taken since August 9 by the prefect of Haute-Garonne. It is a watering that challenges. The situation was discovered by the community councilor of Toulouse Métropole Thomas Karmann (EELV) on the night of Wednesday August 17.
Exemplary behavior?
A situation denounced by the elected official on social networks which directly challenges the Toulouse public transport network. “The watering of the lawns of the Tisseo car park of the Oncopole in the middle of a period of drought and prefectural decree seems surprising to me. Exemplary behavior is expected from Tisseo on these subjects. can you see you tell us more @TisseoSMTC @jmlattes ?”
Tisséo’s response was not long in coming. The public transport operator explains directly under Thomas Karmann’s tweet: “We have contacted our service provider in charge of the maintenance of this car park. A problem now solved. Thank you for your vigilance. Rest assured of our commitment to eco-responsible actions, especially during this period of drought vigilance. The Tisséo Voyageurs team.”
In short, an error by the subcontractor in short. Until August 31, the drought alert is triggered by the Haute Garonne prefecture leading to water restrictions in 23 of the 37 municipalities of the metropolis. Iis therefore prohibited for all users (individuals, professionals, communities) from the drinking water network, of:
- wash cars
- water public and private lawns and green spaces, pleasure gardens, sports fields
- water the vegetable gardens from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- fill private pools at all times and top up during the day (8 a.m. to 8 p.m.)
- powered open circuit fountains
- wash the roads (automatic sweepers not concerned)
- fill or maintain recreational water bodies for personal use
But exceptions exist. As revealed by France 3 Occitanie, the professional clubs of Haute-Garonne, the TFC, the Stade Toulousain, the To13 and the Colomiers Rugby have the authorization to water their grounds.
