Felleries: the beautiful summer of the pretty woods museum and an electricity production project for the mill
August 19, 2022 – 117 views
After 2 complicated years, due to Covid, this mill, built in the 15th century, has been full since the beginning of summer. This pretty little museum houses the testimonies of woodwork and woodturning, which made the reputation of Felleries for more than a century, with up to 35 workshops and 5 factories determined at the height of production.
Moreover, at the end of the visit, you will meet there, in his workshop, a craftsman with a big heart, who, before your eyes, will transform a simple piece of wood into a spinning top, mushroom, bowl or all kinds of objects to the command.
The only mill in Hauts-de-France to have kept its two bucket wheels, by visiting this museum, in addition to woodturning demonstrations, you will also witness the operation of the two millstones of the mill, to transform wheat into plain flour.
Dominique Clément, the wood turner and mediator of the museum, tells us more:
And note that an electricity production project, via the start-up of the mill and according to the flow rates of the river, should very quickly materialize, with the support of local authorities, Crédit Agricole and Renault ElectriCity. The objective is to initially produce enough electricity to light and operate the museum’s wood lathes, or even, in a second stage, to power up to 4 fireplaces around the mill…
Bernard Plumart, the vice-president of the museum-mill of Felleries, tells us more:
