AC Milan: Fabio Capello speaks out on title chances
Fabio Capello, in an interview with “La Gazzetta dello Sport”, gives the keys for AC Milan to retain their title.
Getting to the top is no small feat, but staying there is often even more complicated. This is the mission that AC Milan will try to accomplish this season. After being crowned Italian champions last season, the Milanese club put their title on the line last weekend and hope to once again succeed in winning the Scudetto at the end of the season.
“It will be an open five-way fight”
If AC Milan achieves its goals by taking the best of its competitors, it will be the club’s 20th Scudetto, which means the appearance of a second star on its shirt. Fabio Capello, who won four championships as AC Milan coach, explained in an interview with ‘La Gazzetta dello Sport’ why retaining his title won’t be easy.
The new kings of Rome? Mourinho, Dybala and others dream of being Serie A title contenders
“The repetition of the Scudetto is possible. But the situation has changed. AC Milan is working for itself more but the others too, it will be an open fight with Inter, Juventus, Napoli and Roma. Five brothers equipped to go at the end, with coaches who won, what a show“, admitted the former Italian coach very excited about the title race.
“The danger is in the head”
Capello revealed what might be the biggest hurdle to overcome: “The danger is in the head, especially if you train players who are not used to winning regularly. When you win, you tend to think you’ve done everything, whereas at a club like Milan, winning means having done your duty. You have to erase the memories of success and start from scratch, with your mind in the present. The memories will be useful later.
The Brexit League, a Super League without English teams
The big market move made by the Rossoneri responds to the name of De Ketelaere: “I think Maldini and Massara were moving with goals and, above all, well-defined priorities. They signed Origi, then they focused on the trequartista: they wanted De Ketelaere at all costs because obviously they are as functional to the project. The negotiation was long and exhausting, but they reached the finish line without considering plan B: I see linear choices”.
AC Milan will obviously also qualify for the Champions League, where they will be in the first hat during the group stage, and the objective will be to progress as much as possible. Last year, AC Milan failed in the group stage, beaten by Liverpool, Porto and Atlético Madrid. This season, the Rossoneri will certainly be hoping to reach at least the knockout stages of the competition.
