According to National Geographic, the white color of this creature does not come from albinism, a congenital condition that leads to pigment loss.
The moose usually get the characteristic bright white fur due to a recessive gene that causes the animal to be white with brown spots. This state is called alertness.
According to Göran Ericsson, professor of elk and moose at the Swedish University of Agriculture, the condition is admittedly rare, but he sees the news about white moose sightings every year.
He even believes that the number of these animals is increasing.
But without the database of white moose in the region, it cannot be said with certainty that they are becoming more common. According to Ericsson, moose have fewer predators in Scandinavia besides humans.
