It is a hidden place where few people can enter. The Chateau de la Reynerie is one of the oldest monuments in the city of Toulouse (Haute-Garonne). Normally closed to the public, it opens its doors exceptionally on Saturday August 20, 2022 thanks to the Tourist Office of the city. It awaits the most curious for a guided tour and the discovery of many secrets.
The history of the Castle
239 years ago, the Château de la Reynerie took place within the municipality of Toulouse in 1783. He was integrated by Guillaume Dubarry and classified as a historical monument in 1963.
For the record, Guillaume Dubarry was a French aristocrat who married Jeanne Bécu, known as Madame du Barry, and who turned out to be… the last official mistress of Louis XV, King of France. Thanks to this union, he enjoys the privileges of royalty since Louis XV paid him a pension which allows him to afford the Château de la Reynerie a few years later.
Sold in 1812, following the death of the man a year earlier, the monument changed owners several times, before returning to Toulouse town hall in 2008 at an auction.
Open visits and places
Today, this place is a very old monument of the city which pays attention to its conservation. Visits are therefore rare. In addition to decoration of yesteryear of the castle, you can discover its French garden classified as a “remarkable garden”. Architecture, basins, botany… Many surprises are to be discovered.
Saturday August 20, 2022, a guided tour with a guide is thus offered by reservation. It takes place of 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.A maximum of 30 people are expected.
From October 2022 and those until March 2022, one exceptional visit per month will also be organized at the castle by the city’s Tourist Office.
