Thessaloniki: The Pyrofylakio – Pefkon Observatory was vandalized again
The Anniversary has now become the annual vandalism and extensive destruction and damage to the Artillery-Observatory in the area of Pefki (Π1), next to the Cemeteries, as well as to the adjacent kiosk, which have been destroyed for the third time in a row.
As the deputy mayor of Civil Protection Tasos Tsakiridis found, who was alerted yesterday at noon by a unit of the municipality’s Civil Protection and rushed to the scene, “known unknown malicious elements, since they spray painted them, broke the wooden floor of the firehouse, the wooden backs and seats from the adjacent gazebo, all of which had been redone last year last summer, after being vandalized, as well as the litter bin that is on site.’
The mayor of Neapolis-Sykeon, Simos Danielidis, expresses his indignation as well as his fears, asking for an increase in the patrols of the Police, the Fire Department and the Forest Service. As he states, “unfortunately, history repeats itself once again, for the third year in a row to be precise, the fireworks display in the Pefki area becomes an easy target for non-characteristic criminals who, undisturbed, saw fit to destroy and for us to rebuild. And in fact, in one extremely critical period when the anti-fire shielding of this important green lung must be an absolute priority for all of us. We have no right to be complacent. It is of the utmost importance that Police, Fire and Forestry patrols be increased, especially during high risk periods such as this, as it has been shown, once again, how easy it is for either superior or vigilantes to cause havoc or even put . fire in our forest”.
