Thessaloniki Metro: Construction work on the long-suffering Venizelos Station is “running”.
This station will be operational at the end of 2023 and the metro, on the main line, will be put into commercial operation at the end of 2023.
The course of construction works of the multipath Venizelos Station, Thessaloniki Metrorefutes the Kassandras who insist on challenging the repeated assurances that this particular station will be operationally ready at the end of 2023 and that the metro, on the main line, will be put into commercial operation at the end of 2023.
The good news, which was informed by an authoritative source on GRTimes.gr, is that the construction of the plaque on Level -2, i.e. the level where the ticket offices are located, is currently progressing. That is, in less than 20 days from the departure of the Archeology crews, the excavation was done from Level 0, to -2 and the construction of the slab has already begun.
It should be noted that on Level -1 the ancients that were temporarily detached from the station pit will be re-placed. On Level -3 where the station’s A/C systems are located and, on Level -4, where the docks are.
From the moment, end of July, that was completed archaeological research in the pit of the main station (research continues in the areas of the northern and southern access), construction works are “running at full speed”. The start on Level – 2 started in August and in this phase, steel reinforcement is placed to make the concreting. At this rate of work, Level -2 which is ready, when the slab has fallen, end of August or beginning of September and, definitely, before TIF and the arrival of Mitsotakis in Thessaloniki.
It should be noted that together with the construction of the slab, the iron supports for the construction of the walls are also placed.
The construction of the station has been completed until April 2023 and work will continue on the two approaches. At this stage, the archaeological research continues in the two approaches, with the collaboration working in two shifts. In the North Access, the archaeological exhibition will be completed in the South Access, in October 2022, so its construction has been delayed until the spring of 2023. year.
As far as the archaeological research is concerned, it should be noted that the related works, which also concerned the detachment of the authorities and their transfer, were implemented at a super-fast pace as they had restarted last August and were completed, in the station section, in 12 months.
For the start of commercial operation of the Metro at the end of 2023, the construction of the shell and Level-4 should be completed, as well as the scheduled test routes with the wires for 7-8 months, so that it can be runs from the east end and New Switzerland, to the Railway Station and back. Boarding and disembarking passengers at Venizelos Station will begin after the architectural clearances have been passed.
The goal of Attiko Metro S.A. is, as of March-April 2023, the construction of the Station has not been finished, the electromechanical systems have not been installed, so that test routes can begin.
In the meantime, the works of the railway infrastructure were essentially finished two weeks ago and in the Kalamaria Extension, while for about a year now test routes have been carried out with the wires that have been received and are being stored in the depot.
It is recalled that according to Attiko Metro S.A. and repeated assurances from the competent Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, the Kalamaria Extension will be put into operation, six months after the Royal Metro Line, i.e. in the summer of 2024.
