The State Department warned the US Congress about the consequences if Russia is recognized as a “sponsor of terrorism”
Foreign Office Representatives Raise Unofficial Fears to Congressmen
The US State Department has informally notified Congress of its concerns about a pending initiative to recognize Russia as a “country sponsor of terrorism.” According to the Foreign Ministry, the scenario could have negative consequences, writes Political reference to sources.
According to the publication, the State Department fears that an initiative has been taken to violate the Istanbul agreements on the export of the executive body to the ports of Ukraine. Representatives of the department believe that then “there are no guarantees that Russia will fulfill its obligations.”
Also, according to the State Department, the incidence of Russia as a “country sponsoring terrorism” will “actually cut off the American” from participating in international relations with Moscow and significantly complicates the interaction of countries in the nuclear field.
Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry allowed the rupture of diplomatic relations with the United States when declaring the Russian Federation a “sponsor of terrorism.” According to the director of the North America department Alexander Darchiev, this is an unacceptable scenario, the implementation of which Russia will behave harshly.
