TVDE drivers flee to the Algarve to raise prices in Lisbon and Porto
Cars registered on TVDE platforms rose 30% this summer, but the increase in demand is greater and reaches 300% in the Algarve. The migration of 40,598 drivers to the South has led to an increase in tariffs in Lisbon and Porto, where there are no cars and affordable tariffs when there are more prices that go up and fewer cars – have allowed them to bill more professionally. More and more drivers are and the sector remains apprehensive because, despite the increase in invoicing, profitability still does not reach the pre-pandemic level.
Uber, Bolt and Free Now – the three main TVDE platforms operating in Portugal – calculate that, so far, there are 30% more vehicles operating. But the increase in demand is much higher, causing a lack of service at times. “In Lisbon, demand increased by more than 45%, in Porto by more than 80% and in the Algarve by around 300%”, revealed the source from Free Now to JN.
“The average increase in demand at national level has been around 30”, estimates Nuno Inácio, from Bolt Portugal. Since candidates registered on the platform do not have to change their area of operation, Bolt has no record of how many migrated to the Algarve at this time.
