Adrien Trebel knows his next opponent well: “In Belgium, The Young Boys were playing for the title”
The Mauves meet the Young Boys of Bern this Thursday in the Conference League play-offs. An opponent that Adrien Trebel has already faced during his loan to Switzerland last season.
Although Lausanne, the club Trebel played for in the second half of last season, was relegated, they never lost to Young Boys. “I drew twice and I even gave an assist in this stadium,” recalled the Frenchman at a press conference, in remarks relayed by the newblad. “Nevertheless, we shouldn’t underestimate Young Boys. This team would definitely make it into the top four in Belgium and play for the title.”
“They have already won several titles here in Switzerland,” continues Trebel. “Okay, last season they didn’t just finish third, but at the same time they held on against Manchester United in the Champions League. They’re doing just as well under their new coach.”
Mazzù told me that I had to become the best version of myself again
Persona non grata last season under Kompany, Trebel came back a bit from nowhere and seems to be reborn under Mazzù. “At the beginning of the preparation, I had a conversation with the coach and he told me that I had to become the best version of myself again,” explains Trebel.
“Last year in Lausanne, I just picked up the pace and now I’m back on track like before. The harder I work, the better I feel,” he says. “I don’t mind that we play here on artificial turf. My body can handle that.”
