UN farmer from Pas-de-Calais found his cornfield covered in waste. This wild deposit could jeopardize its harvest. Meet.
A cornfield was ravaged Montigny en Gohelle (Pas-de-Calais), during the weekend of August 15. Several trucks dumped garbage, bulky items, tires, or even rubble in the middle of a plot, after having made a trench of a hundred meters through the crops. The farmer, François Legay, has just observed the damage.
“I’m disgusted. 15 days from harvest, when you arrive in your field, the time you’ll lose to harvest… Total disgust”, he confides. The deputy mayor (PS) of Montigny-en-Gohelle, Stanislas Smuraga, seems hardly surprised when he discovers the wild dump. It is indeed not uncommon to find rubbish and bulky items at the edge of roads and fields. However, larceny differs in its magnitude. “It’s the first time it’s happened, so important. (…) We have to find the culprit, and make them pay”, he believes. Wild dumping is becoming a scourge in the region.
