University lecturer in demography at the UNIVERSITY OF HELSINKI
The Faculty of Social Sciences and the Center for Social Sciences invite you to apply for the position
UNIVERSITY DEMOGRAPHIC GRADUATE
for a fixed-term 5-year employment relationship, which will start as soon as possible, but no later than the beginning of 2023.
The duties of the current university lecturer include producing teaching in accordance with the degree requirements, supervising and checking theses and dissertations, conducting high-quality research on demographic processes, and coordinating the activities of the Perhemuodostus Flux research team. at the University of Helsinki (https://fluxconsortium.fi/). The university lecturer will be affiliated with the Center for Social Information Science (https://www.helsinki.fi/fi/verkot/keskus-sosiaalinen-data-tiede) and with the Population Research Unit (https://www2.helsinki.fi/fi/tutkimusryhmets/väestötutkimus).
COMPETENCE
The candidate must have a suitable doctoral degree in, for example, demography, sociology, economics, data science or statistics and the ability to offer high-quality research-based teaching and supervise theses and dissertations. The degree requirement must be fulfilled by the end of the application period.
Carrying out the task successfully requires a good command of the English language.
When evaluating the qualifications of each applicant, attention is paid to:
- Scientific publications, especially in the field of demography
Change scientific activity
Teaching experience, thesis supervision and other pedagogical merits, pedagogical training, teaching development, production of learning material - The applicant’s teaching presentation
- Interview with the applicant.
In the assessment, special emphasis is placed on (1) research and publication history in the field of population science and (2) the ability to teach advanced quantitative methods in the social sciences. We equally value research history in social, health and family demography.

The annual gross salary ranges from approx. 45,000–63,000 €, depending on the qualifications and experience of the appointee.
