At the beginning of August, the town hall of Toulouse rendering its free parking for two weeks. But from August 16, the operation is over, and it will be better not to forget to pay for parking. And for good reason, the municipality is launching tuesday august 16 new son Lapi device.
Automatic plate control
This is a automated license plate check. It will be carried out by two vehicles which will circulate in the city to ensure that motorists have properly paid for their parking.
The control will therefore be done more quickly than when the police control on foot. The city of Toulouse has, in total, 16,300 paid seats.
The device
The Lapi device already exists in several cities in France, and arrives in August in Toulouse. The city, which was already familiar with video surveillance, saw this license plate control device come to restore its system.
To avoid a fine, simply pay for your parking space at a terminal installed for this purpose. Or go to the app “Park Now”since you can pay directly for your place.
In the event of a fine?
If there is a detection of non-payment, “this tool offers public road surveillance agents (ASVP, editor’s note) to validate or not a post-parking package” explains Emilion EsnaultDeputy in charge of security and the good maintenance of public space.
In fact, in order not to impose a wrongful fine, the ASVPs will carry out “pre-checks” in order to ensure that the parking lot has not been settled.
The case of people with reduced mobility
In order not to penalize people with reduced mobility, the town hall of Toulouse has unveiled several solutions at their disposal:
- A free ticket for them will be available directly on the parking meters, or on the Park Now application.
- They also have the option of reference their vehicle on a database of the town hall so that they are not controlled. To do this, simply call the town hall and register.
But for some collectives, including the “Collectif Inter Associatif Handicaps 31”, this implementation “will aggressor the living conditions of people with disabilities”, imposing “additional administrative procedures”.
According to the town hall of Toulouse, 30% of drivers paid for paid parking in Toulouse. This situation should therefore change in the coming days.
