The area around the Strašnická metro station on line A has been neglected for a long time. The planned revitalization plan includes the reconstruction of the public space around the subway station, the adjacent park between Mrštíkova and V Olšinách streets, and due to the already completed reconstruction of the tram line in Starostrašnická street, also the completion of connecting areas. Prague 10 Deputy Mayor for Territorial Development, Cultural Monuments and Business Support Martin Valovič (ODS) informed about this.
“Strašnická deserves revitalization, no one doubts that. In addition, the current appearance of the station’s surroundings attracts troubled people, as evidenced by the frequent police visits,” said Valovič, who is a candidate of the Together for Prague 10 coalition for mayor of the tenth city district in the upcoming municipal elections.
As part of the renovation of the public space around the entrance to the subway station, new tree rows are planned for the northern and western areas around the station, which will be followed by green terraces with sheltered seating in the shade of trees.
“There will be other green belts, a water feature and an area suitable for holding markets and other events,” continued Valovič, who promotes the revitalization of the area around the Strašnická metro.
A bookstore, snack stand or water feature will appear at the station. It is also expected to replace the existing public transport shelters and prepare the area for holding markets. The disc-shaped roof of the station will turn green thanks to the revitalization.
The project also envisages the modification of the park bounded by V Olšinách and Mrštíkova streets, the changes will also be recognized by visitors to the smaller park north of Mrštíkova.
“The project documentation is currently being prepared for obtaining the relevant permit. Furthermore, we will compete for the entire supply of construction works that will effectively ensure the revitalization,” added Prague 10 Deputy Mayor Martin Valovič.
