Tabitha Chawinga joins Inter Milan | Africa Foot United
Malawi senior women’s football team captain Tabitha Chawinga has signed with Serie A Women’s side Inter Milan.
The main striker has signed a one-year loan deal with Inter Milan from Chinese Women’s Super League side Wuhan Jiangda. Tabitha left behind her younger sister Temwa in China who is also a top striker for Wuhan Jiangda.
A few seasons ago, Tabitha left another Chinese Super League team, Jiangsu Suning, to reunite with Temwa in Jiangda. Last month, Temwa won her club’s top scorer award after scoring six goals in six appearances for Jiangsu. Tabitha retired from his career at DD Sunshine FC before Temwa followed suit by signing for the Lilongwe-based side.
Tabitha eventually joined Krokom/Dvarsatts IF, a Swedish third division team, in 2014, becoming the first Malawian footballer to sign for a European team. She ended up scoring 39 goals in 14 games, although she missed five games because she had not yet reached the age of 18, which is the minimum age for professional footballers.
The Malawian’s star continued to rise in Sweden, where she signed for Kvarnsveden, then in the second division, helping them get promoted to the main league called Damallsvenskan after scoring 43 goals. She then moved to China in 2018 to join Jiangsu Suning. Before leaving Sweden for China, Tabitha recommended Temwa to the same Swedish team. After one season, Temwa followed her older sister to China where she signed for Wuhan.
