Expert: There will be gas for Bulgaria, but at a very high price
Most likely, there will be gas for Bulgaria in the winter in sufficient volumes, it will be at a very high price. But if there is no delivery – what price are we talking about? In our region – Bulgaria, Greece, Turkey, there is a sufficient amount of gas to meet the consumption of these countries in the regions. The point is that there is any redistribution after Gazprom unilaterally stopped the supply. Bulgaria now supplies itself by buying tankers with liquefied gas from the US, or by taking surpluses from the Greek market. This is what the international analyst at the Bulgarian Geopolitical Society, Plamen Dimitrov, said in the “Day ON AIR” studio.
He clarified that “Gazprom” has not stopped supplies to Greece.
“We are looking for 2 billion a year. But it is about spot prices, not long-term contracts, which means that Bulgaria has to pay a price that is close to the TTF in the Netherlands. And there the price is very high. In Germany, 2 terminals are expected to become operational in mid-winter. The bottleneck at the moment is the terminals for receiving gas and the pipes to get to Bulgaria,” added Dimitrov on the air of Bulgaria ON AIR.
The expert emphasizes that we currently use 1 billion cubic meters of gas from Azerbaijan.
“And we buy gas from Greek traders who have a mix of gas that they buy from Gazprom.” Since “Gazprom” did not deliver gas, there is nothing to condemn us for. The question is whether our country cannot condemn them – rather yes. But “Gazprom” can refer to the decree of the President of the technique for the payment in rubles and say that these are force majeure circumstances and it was decided at the state level,” Plamen Dimitrov is categorical.
It was clear from his words that our contract with Gazprom expires at the end of this year.
“It does not work for business to determine who is the director of Bulgargaz, after all, there is the Ministry of Energy. The biggest customer of Bulgargaz – “Toplofikatsia Sofia”, you don’t pay your bills regularly, but those who supply gas, you want your money immediately. “The prices on the spot markets also rose very sharply, and in order for Bulgargaz to be able to buy something in advance, it must have available money to pay,” he added.
