Antigoni Drisbioti won the gold in the European athletics championship
Antigoni Drisbiotis won the gold medal in the European Athletics Championships, in walking.
The Greek champion, won the gold medal in the 35 km of the European championship, held in Munich, after finishing holding the Greek flag, covering the distance in two hours and 47 minutes.
The 38-year-old (!) Drisbioti had… warned about her excellent condition, last month, as she finished 4th at the same distance, in the Eugene world championship.
The Greek champion was from the beginning in the group with the pioneers and from the 18th kilometer, she was in charge. Then, Drisbioti managed her forces and in the last three kilometers of the route, she managed to take about a second off the Spaniard, Raquel Gonzalez, who was also the main competitor.
It is worth noting that this is the first gold medal for Greek walking at the level, given that in 2004 in Athens, Athanasia Tsoumeleka was crowned Olympian.
The first eight of the final in the 35 km walk of the European championship are as follows:
1. Antigoni Drisbiotis (Greece) 2:47.00
