An unrepeatable movie experience. Summer 3Kino will screen in the center of Prague
During the summer season, Letní 3Kino prepared another gift for film lovers in the form of film projects under the open sky called Letní 3Kino on Mariánské náměstí with the support of the Polish Institute in Prague and in cooperation with the Municipal Library in Prague. In the historic center you can enjoy the summer atmosphere and watch award-winning Central European films for free.
Letní 3Kino is convinced that the film should be an unrepeatable experience for the viewer, which is the main criterion for the selection of Letní 3Kino films. In addition, the atmosphere of the projection is enhanced not only by the scenery of the Old Town, but also by perfect sound. It is – as in the previous year – transmitted to headphones. 3Kino has been presenting the best Central European films for a long time, which you cannot normally see in cinemas, even though they have won significant awards, and their creators or actors belong to the world’s top filmmakers.
18.8. Thursday, 20:30 (Marianske náměstí) – Jack Strong
(Poland, 2014, Władysław Pasikowski, Polish, Czech subtitles, 128 min.)
Jack Strong is the code name of Colonel Kukliński of the Polish People’s Army. He was a secret agent of the CIA for many years, and now his story has been made into a film directed by Pasikowski. This is the first treatment of his fate in a feature film, presented in the form of an action spectacle, which at the same time reminds us of the subjugation of the Eastern Bloc states under the dictates of the Soviet Union, the suffocating atmosphere of life behind the Iron Curtain and the heroism of those who were able to stand up to communist evil.
19.8. Friday, 20:30 (Marianske náměstí) – Jan Palach
(Czechia, 2018, Robert Sedláček, Czech, 124 min.)
In his drama, director Robert Sedláček investigates how a 20-year-old student became a human torch in a time of creeping, but all the more terrifyingly obvious, change in order. Director Robert Sedláček and screenwriter Eva Kantůrková relied on the testimonies of witnesses and thus evoke the spirit of the time in which more sensitive individuals could not breathe, as they probably also thought about concepts such as “morality of the nation”. In 2018, the film received eight Czech Lions.
20.8. Saturday, 20:30 (Marianske náměstí) – Occupation
(Czechia, 2021, Michal Nohejl, Czech, 98 min.)
A sleepy party of theater actors is interrupted by a visit from an uninvited guest. A drunken Russian officer has come to sell a canister of gasoline, but the deal degenerates into a vodka-drinking contest, and the Russian, captivated not only by the handsome Milada, but mainly by the comical cowardice of all the men present, is in no mood to leave. The atmosphere thickens along with clouds of cigarette smoke, characters break. The Russian is having a great time when he pulls out his gun… The game changes in the past, heroes into cowards and cowards into heroes. The complete program and annotations can be found on the website 3kino.cz
The co-organizer of the Summer 3Kine is the Municipal Library in Prague. Thanks to the financial search of the Municipal District of Prague 1, the Czech-Polish Forum of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Polish Institute in Prague, all projects are free.
