US vs. Sweden: Live scores, highlights, updates from the 2022 World Juniors match
The U.S. is looking for a perfect 4-0-0-0 at the World Junior Championships for the first time since 2017 when it takes on Sweden in its final preliminary round game Sunday night.
The Americans last beat Austria, where Carter Mazur and Wyatt Kaiser each scored twice in the Saturday matinee.

“We knew we had to get off to a good start today,” coach Nate Leaman said after the 7-0 victory. “Our schedule was different today, and it was important for us to adjust quickly. I’m happy with how the team started the first period and kept it going.”
Team USA has practically cruised through group stage. It outscored Germany, Switzerland and Austria 19-2 through the first three contests. Sweden will be by far the Americans’ toughest test to date.
The Swedes also roll into Sunday after a win against Austria. They played last Friday and won 6-0. Sweden previously defeated Switzerland 3-2.
The winner of this game will very likely finish as No. 1 in Group B and be nicely set heading into the knockout stage.

Carter Mazur Tracker
Each game we will highlight a player on Team USA to follow.
For the competition against Sweden, we will focus on Carter Mazur. The University of Denver product is coming off back-to-back goals with two goal games. His four goals in the tournament trails only Canada’s Mason McTavish, and his six points are fourth among all skaters.
The 2021 third round pick of the Red Wings has been great playing on the top line with Thomas Bordeleau and Landon Slaggert. If Team USA wants to come out on top against Sweden, it will need that line to be at its best.
USA vs Sweden live updates, highlights from 2022 World Juniors
1st period
22:31 β Chances on both sides, but nothing since the Berard goal. Mbereko has been strong, but his rebound control has been a little shaky. Look for Sweden to get bodies and pucks to the net.
22:21 β GOAL! The USA takes advantage when Brett Berard takes the puck to the net from the sideline and takes his own rebound past Wallstedt. A smart power move, takes a pass from the dot and attacks Wallstedt directly. The first shot is blocked, but Berard remains resilient and he puts in the second attempt.

22:19 β Liam Ohgren gets his stick in the skates of Luke Hughes and is called for tripping. First power play for the USA.
22:18 β Sweden just had a wide net, but they couldn’t hit it. Mbereko stopped the initial shot, but the puck bounced off his glove. A Swedish forward had the puck on his stick in the crease behind Mbereko, but it rolls off the blade.
22:10 β Early chance for Logan Cooley, who had the puck on his stick at the top of the crease, but he couldn’t get a clear shot away. A pass had gone under the stick of a Swedish defender and right to Cooley in front of Jesper Wallstedt.
Foreplay
21.00 β A couple of changes for Nate Leaman’s crew. Charlie Stramel comes out as Hunter McKown pulls back in. Kaiden Mbereko is back in the fold after sitting out the Austria game.
