We can say that in the corridors of the operating room of the Pasteur Clinic, the start of the day is not the same as elsewhere. If you listen to it, around 7:20 a.m., music emanates from it, “sometimes calm, sometimes punchy”, confides the sparkling Chloe, nurse in the block. This morning, she’s the one leading muscle awakeningon Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off”.
This awakening is organized at the beginning of the day in the operating room of the Pasteur clinic in Toulouse and lasts for one song. The nurses, stretcher bearers and paramedics of the service are invited, without obligation. They are about twenty to participate.
His arrival at Pasteur
The muscular awakening consists of a succession of movements to prepare the staff’s body for the day ahead. This is Isabelle Deltour de Chazellethe head of the block who had the idea.
“We had a lot of nurses, stretcher-bearers who had back problems or who had pain somewhere at the end of the day. We tried several things to relieve them, we even brought in ergonomists. Then, I spoke with my sister who works in a large sewing group and told me that every morning they do a muscle awakening to prevent pain. I asked the clinic if we could do that too. Then I had the green light: it was on.”
The opinion of the staff
The device then arrives in the operating room end of October 2021. Sessions are led by service members themselves. “Every morning, a nurse volunteers to wake up, explains the head of the block, we try to do it as often as possible, but sometimes if we have a lot of patients, we don’t have time”.
In addition to the benefits for the body, it also allows staff to start the day on the right foot and in a good mood. “In terms of team cohesion, it’s great for them,” says Isabelle Deltour de Chazelle.
Chloé, a nurse, talks about a ” good time. It allows you to wake up all the muscles and it’s a convivial moment in the morning”.
Of the laughter and humming resound in the hallway… Obviously, the choice of music and the sequences are appreciated by the team that morning. At the end of the muscle awakening, place to applause, and off we go for a new day of work that awaits the team.
