The Liechtenstein Hereditary Prince also sees opportunities in the current one
On the national holiday, the Liechtenstein Hereditary Prince Alois called on his compatriots to seize the opportunities offered by the current crisis.
He identified a need for action in particular with regard to energy supply and the dried-up labor market. In the energy sector, the Principality should show solidarity with the other European states, declared Hereditary Prince Alois according to the text of the speech in the traditional speech shortly before midday on Monday, August 15, 2022, on the palace grounds in Vaduz. That means using “first and foremost all reasonable options for saving energy”.
In addition, Liechtenstein should increase the share of renewable energies. The country can thus become “cleaner” in terms of energy and at the same time increase energy security.
“Therefore, we should develop additional renewable energy sources such as solar energy, district heating, geothermal energy, wood burning and biogas,” he emphasized. Since 2004, the hereditary prince has been the representative of Prince Hans-Adam II.
As many jobs as residents
The heir to the throne described the recruitment of workers as another “big challenge”. The principality has about as many jobs as inhabitants. More than half of the workers are cross-border commuters.
“Meaningful work, flexible working hours and a good balance between family, care and work” are of increasing importance in order to recruit new workers and keep workers again, the Hereditary Prince explained.
Attractiveness of location and company also has to do with security. The “accession to the International Monetary Fund that is currently being discussed” can provide additional security.
Liechtenstein should focus on the entrepreneurial spirit
Alois von und zu Liechtenstein also addressed the rising prices for “food, fuel and other specific products”. The state should concentrate on supporting real cases of hardship, he said.
The steering effect of prices is normally preferable to government steering measures. This also applies to areas such as saving energy and investing in more environmentally friendly technologies.
“Government control measures often end in a planned economy,” warned the heiress. In order to achieve its goals, Liechtenstein should above all rely on its strong entrepreneurial spirit and great innovative strength.
The traditional aperitif was canceled due to renovation work
Traditionally, after the state ceremony, there is a folk aperitif in the Great Rose Garden of the Princely Palace. Due to renovation work in the palace area, the aperitif was canceled this time.
The population was able to meet the princely family in person instead of on the palace grounds. The state holiday began in the afternoon with a large folk festival in the town of Vaduz, usually with music in five squares.
The fireworks will also be canceled due to the ongoing drought. Alternatives without open flames were organized for the traditional bonfires, the burning crown on Tuass and the torchlight procession over the Fürstensteig. After that, the singing of the national anthem was planned in the Städtle, surrounded by the festively illuminated castle and the state parliament and government building.
