the Côte-d’Or, the department most struck down this night
We thought that the rain would spare the Côte-d’Or on Sunday, while the department has been suffering from drought since June. Luckily, the precipitation finally arrived around 8 p.m., which allowed the thermometer to come down nicely. At 7 a.m. on Monday, it was 16.3 degrees in Dijon, 15.7 degrees in Châtillon-sur-Seine, 14.4 degrees in Montbard or 16.5 degrees in Pouilly-en-Auxois.
According to MétéoNews, the maximum should not exceed 25 degrees during the day. Unstable residue should still be present this morning in the region with cloud banks carrying a few showers before giving way to clearings. However, a few stormy showers could occur, which is why Météo France maintained the yellow thunderstorm vigilance in Côte-d’Or until 10 p.m.
More than 650 éclairs in Côte-d’Or
If the Côte-d’Or was relatively spared by lightning during the day on Sunday, it was necessary to wait until night to see many lightning strikes. According to the French observatory of tornadoes and violent thunderstorms Keraunos, thunderstorms only hit this night in the east of France and the Côte-d’Or is the most affected department with 658 qualified lightning strikes since midnight with a peak at 6 a.m. (392 flashes). The town of Savoisy was the most affected followed with 21 flashes, Pouillenay and Soissons-sur-Nacey (21).
The rest of the week promises to be quite unstable. And it’s a good thing because the rain that fell on Sunday will not be enough to make up for the rainfall deficit experienced by the Côte-d’Or. As a reminder, the Dijon station recorded only 6 mm of rain in July for a normal of 65 mm. According to MétéoNews forecasters, after a return of the sun and heat on Tuesday (31 degrees at the hottest hours), we can expect a new rainy and stormy episode on Wednesday which should continue on Thursday. This disturbance will result in lowering the thermometer which should oscillate around 25 degrees. The end of the week promises to be breathable with around 24 degrees, under a sky that is sometimes sunny, sometimes cloudy.
