One was dismissed, some others in Thessaloniki are struggling
During this period, the process of regular judgments of hospital administrators is underway. Normally the reviews are done every six months but the ones that are going on now coincide with the completion of three years in office for several of the commanders and from what I learn, they are more detailed and demanding. In addition, they are the first under the current leadership of Thanos Pleuris in the Ministry of Health and this is also important. Typically the judgments are made by a special committee that evaluates the work of the administrators based on some parameters. He then recommends to the minister whether or not to renew the term of office of the judge, a recommendation which is however not binding on the political leadership.
I am informed that until now, only one administrator of a hospital in Thessaloniki has been summoned for a hearing by the committee in question. This means that its members were not completely satisfied with his performance, as reflected in the data that had been sent to them, and wanted further clarifications. I don’t know if this also means a negative recommendation for this particular one. Further scrutiny is also being carried out for some others, hence their anxiety regarding the renewal or not of their tenure.
However, so far, only one commander’s dismissal has been announced. It concerns Stergios Ganatsios, former director of the Kozani Mamatse hospital. His removal was initially attempted, it did not appear from him as a resignation, but in the end it was about removal as the members of the evaluation of the Ministry of Health expressed a negative judgment. I am informed, in fact, this had been done during the crises of the previous semester, but the decision to remove him was delayed for the well-known bureaucratic reasons. For the rest of the commanders, the final decisions are expected sometime in September, but the picture that exists, at least for Thessaloniki, is that not many changes should be expected.
